What is a John Deere VTG valve?

VTG valves are mechanisms that allow you to adjust the angle of inclination of the turbocharger blades. This makes it possible to adapt the turbocharger's performance to the engine's requirements in various conditions. VTG valves are typically controlled by the engine control unit (ECU), which receives signals from various sensors such as air pressure and temperature and adjusts the operation of the VTG valves for optimal engine performance.

How does the controller, VTG valve work?

A traditional turbocharger is equipped with a fixed blade shape, which means that their angle of inclination remains unchanged. VTG valves change this paradox by allowing the blade angle to be adjusted depending on the engine's needs. This allows you to control the flow of exhaust gases through the turbocharger, which is crucial for optimizing performance.

At low engine speeds, the VTG valves can be set to a lower angle, which increases exhaust gas velocity and allows the turbocharger to rotate faster. This translates into greater torque and engine flexibility, which is especially important when starting from a standstill or driving in mountainous terrain.

At higher engine speeds, the VTG valves can be set to a greater angle of inclination, which limits the exhaust gas velocity and ensures adequate turbocharger efficiency. This allows for more power at higher engine speeds, which is beneficial when driving dynamically on the highway or overtaking other vehicles.
