The valve is one of the most important components of the engine system. Its task is to properly deviate the opening angle when pressing the accelerator pedal, and thus dosing the right amount of exhaust gas in the exhaust gas cooling system, the popular EGR. The valve therefore has a huge impact on the exhaust gas standard.

EGR valve – operation

The DAF CF 85 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) EGR valve is responsible for recirculating part of the exhaust gas from the exhaust system to the engine intake system. Its aim is to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are one of the main air pollutants emitted by vehicles. The valve is equipped with a modulator that allows precise control of exhaust gas recirculation depending on the current driving conditions and engine requirements.

The operation of the EGR valve is extremely complex. At low engine speeds, the modulator controls the opening of the EGR throttle, allowing more exhaust gas to recirculate. As a result, the combustion temperature is lowered, resulting in a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions. At high engine speeds, the modulator reduces the opening of the EGR throttle, reducing exhaust gas recirculation and providing more engine power and flexibility.
